FAQ

What do the costs include?

Everything except your flights and accommodation. All the activities and events on the programme are included in the cost, including the shuttle from the airport. Other than shopping and meals outside the programme, all costs are covered.

Is this an accredited course?

This course carries no formal academic accreditation. This allows us to build a dynamic syllabus for an ever-changing world. The bespoke curriculum prepares you for accredited tertiary education, whether in science or business.

What is the proof of attendance?

You will receive a Certificate of Completion issued by Stratplanning, a registered organisation that has a 20-year track record in education.

I am from out of town – where will I stay?

There are numerous hotels within the Waterfront precinct. Should you wish to receive a recommendation, we would be happy to oblige. The classes will be held at Workshop 17, a modern and dynamic environment in the Waterfront, with all the necessary classroom facilities.

Can I stay outside the Waterfront?

It is possible to stay at a location of your choice, such as a B&B, however you are expected to be in class by 09:00 every day, and sometimes we will finish after dark. So it is not advisable. For local students, you do not need to stay in the Waterfront, but you will be required to keep to the times as outlined in the programme.

Is Cape Town safe?

Although crime is a reality no matter where you go in the world, if you know your surroundings and your destination, it is as safe as any modern city. The Waterfront is exceptionally safe and is a tightly monitored precinct – and the ideal base from which to explore the (arguably) most beautiful city in the world.

Will I be free to explore?

As at university, you have freedom of choice. However, the two weeks offers a jam-packed itinerary and ‘going off on your own’ is neither necessary nor encouraged.

If you need to visit a specific location, such as to see a relative or friend, you must plan your outing with the staff, and your cellphone must be on at all times. Uber in Cape Town is efficient and reliable for short trips. You will be given the number of the course concierge should any assistance be required. If you wish to tour South Africa after the course, we can put you in touch with reputable travel agents.

What additional support will I get?

Your class will have a dedicated concierge to help with errands, or any emergencies 24/7.

What about healthcare needs?

If you are a foreign students, you must have proof of medical cover. If you are a local student, medical aid details must be provided.

Do you help with visas?

Once you have paid your registration fee, we will issue the necessary invitation allowing you to apply for a visa.

Can I repeat the course?

Should you wish to repeat the immersion experience, you are welcome to attend again. However, we will not adapt the syllabus for one student and you will need to commit to the entire course.

Can I meet you at the after-hour venues?

No, the entire class will leave together from the Waterfront for all activities.

Can I have a cellphone

You must have a cellphone so we can contact you, especially if you have gone on a tour. Cellphones are to be switched off during lectures.

Do I need a laptop

Yes, some of the sessions require computer work.

What preparation is required?

You will receive selected pre-readings which all students are expected to have reviewed before the course starts.

What about my cultural and/or religious needs?

Please check with your hotel for dietary options. For meals arranged by Uniprep, we offer halaal, kosher, vegetarian and vegan options (even when on an excursion). For cultural practices such as prayer times, we will accommodate as much as practically possible, without diluting the experience for you or the class.

Should I hire a car?

This is not required or recommended. If you do hire a car and do not know Cape Town UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU HIRE ONE AT THE AIRPORT. If you arrive, say a week earlier, and want a car, use the shuttles and taxis available at the kiosks at the airport, to take you to your hotel, and then arrange for the hired car to be picked up in town or delivered to the hotel. Your GPS is not to be relied on for the trip to/from the airport if you do not know the route.

What is loadshedding?

South Africa has a shortfall in electricity which requires that the power is switched off at certain times (usually 2 hours in the day). However, the Waterfront has its own power backup, as does the training venue. Most hotels also have their own backup generation. South Africans have learned to live with this and it has become a part of our lives.

Do I need a textbook and writing material?

No – all academic material will be provided digitally. You are free to bring a preferred notepad, although all the necessary stationary will be provided.

Can I be sent by a company?

Finding a sponsor can be challenging, however it is not impossible and there are organisations with an ESG budget for this purpose that can be found on the internet. Uniprep does not provide any leads for this, and neither do we provide accreditation credentials to a potential sponsor. However, we are quite happy to discuss any requirements that the sponsoring organisation has such as our tax clearance certificate, registration documents and proof of bank account.
